Description

What Is Reckless Driving in Virginia?

In Virginia, reckless driving is defined as:

  • Driving 20 miles per hour or more over the posted speed limit, or

  • Driving over 85 miles per hour, regardless of the speed limit.

Under Virginia Code § 46.2-862, reckless driving is classified as a Class 1 misdemeanor—a serious criminal offense that can carry lasting consequences.

What Is Aggressive Driving?

Aggressive driving refers to unsafe or hostile driving behavior that shows a disregard for the safety of others. This can include:

  • Tailgating

  • Frequent or erratic lane changes

  • Failing to signal or yield

  • Ignoring traffic signs and signals

While some drivers act aggressively on purpose, many engage in these behaviors without even realizing it.

Our aggressive driving course is designed to help you reflect on your own habits, identify potentially dangerous behaviors, and better recognize signs of aggression in others—ultimately making the road safer for everyone.
